The Unknown forces behind the US anti online gaming

Who is really behind the movement in the US to squash online gaming and why.
The stated reasons were that the online gaming would allow money laundering and was detrimental to the Internet youth and would create addicted gamblers.

The way to put a damper on the Internet online gaming was to make it difficult to deposit and withdraw money from an online casino. The way this was done was to make it unlawful for a bank to allow its credit cards be used to fund a casino account. The Department of Justice has stated in a Congressional hearing that it is not illegal for a US citizen to place wagers online. So attacking the moving of money was the way to stop players and casinos from getting together.

The Congressional writer of the US law is a Virginia Congressman named Bob Goodlatte. He forcefully pushed and wrote the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). In a recent Perspectives weekly the online casino writer J. Todd revealed that Congressman Goodlatte was not as anti gambling, as he would have you believe from his statements that online gambling was immoral. That is unless it is Horse Racing related or has to do with the lotteries run by the States. It turns out the good Congressmen has been the willing recipient of campaign contributions from the horse racing industry. Betting on horses is one of the oldest forms of gambling that has been part of American history It just shows the need to better examine the folks who are pushing this legislation

The other problem with the current Legislation is that it violates the US agreement when it signed the WTO agreement and unilaterally took online gaming out of the agreement without permission. Other parties to the agreement have sued and won in court and this will help correct this ill-advised legislation.

The current push in Congress and the recent hearings on the subject will probably force a change on this prohibition and a reasonable compromise that all could live with. Like the prohibition on liquor, this prohibition will also come to the same fate.
