Tote to move to online casino tax haven

The Tote, the well-known UK bookie operation, is moving its online casino Toteport to the channel island of Alderney. The reason for the move is to avoid the 15% tax that is in place on UK operated online casinos. The Toteport can operate out of Alderney and not lose any of the advantages of a UK online casino and additionally not be subject to the tax

Many online casinos that operate on the net cannot advertise in the UK unless their base of operation is an approved venue from the UK. The approval has to do with the legal gaming control of the site by a recognized governing authority.

The humorous element of this move is the British government owns the Tote. It is up for sale, but currently the British authorities own the company until it is sold. The reality of the situation is online casinos have poorly received the 15% tax and those that can move have done so or they have junked plans they may have had to become a UK online casino. The desire by the UK to become a haven for online casinos has been a loser due to this tax.
