Story of a high roller 1

High Stakes Poker has been played at various high roller casinos in Las Vegas and is seen every week on television. The players are for the most part, high roller poker pros that can well afford the stakes that these games require. Two of the best hands that have been part of this show are worth writing about.

High rollers do not look at the money their chips represent like non-high rollers do. There is no way you can play their game with a Saturday night poker mind-set. The proof of this statement shows in two famous hands from this series.

The first hand was a hand that was played between Sammy Farha and Barry Greenstein. The hand came down to whether Sammy Farha would call a very large wager from Barry Greenstein before the flop in a Texas Holdem game.

Barry held two aces and Sammy held two kings. Farha knew that Greenstein had a big hand, as he is not noted for betting marginal hands in a big way. Farha debated a long time before calling a high roller bet and raising all in for a total bet of over $180,000 Barry obviously called and Farha said as Barry was showing his hand, do you have aces? Of course Barry did show two aces. On the flop, Sammy gets a third King. When the Flop was complete, he wins the pot of over $360,000 with his three kings. This was a very bad beat and Barry showed absolutely no emotion. This is another trait of a true high roller-gambler. The part that is amazing is that Farha called with the pair of kings.

The second hand from this series is the one played between Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen. This is another spectacular show of high rollers in action in a pot that ended up with over $575,000 dollars in it. When the hand started both players had a pair. Gus had a pair of fives and Daniel had a pair of sixes. After the three card flop, Gus had three fives and Daniel had three sixes. . The turn card gave Hansen his fourth five and made Daniel a full house. The last card did not help either player so Daniel made a bet after Hansen had checked. Gus then surprised Daniel by going all in and that caused Negreanu to pause after almost swiveling his head off from the Hansen all in bet.

Daniel paused for a long time while stating he may be may be facing a cooler. He reluctantly called and was shocked to see that Hansen had four fives. This hand is fun to watch on YouTube as you can see the winner and loser swap positions as the hand progresses. At the time it was the biggest pot seen on High Stakes Poker.

The players that show up for this poker series are some of the best tournament players in the world. Many of them also have well earned reputations for being high rollers, that high roller casinos love to see come through the door.
