A multi million dollar purchase of Marvel entertainment by Disney has fans of Cryptologic casino wondering if their marvel online slots games will be affected by this change of hands. Marvel has been purchased by Disney for $4 billion and what they have in store for Marvel in the future is not clear. It is unlikely the games will be changed anytime soon as they won’t want to make any dramatic changes early on in the acquisition. However, due to Disney being a family brand I think we can say for now that there will certainly be some changes in the future and I doubt Disney will want to stick around online gambling for too long as it doesn’t really go with their family image. Taking a note out of Spains book, Italy is going to become more relaxed on online gambling. Italians anticipate changes in the online gambling policy by the end of the year which is very soon. This change in approach to online gambling has come about because of the negative hit the economy has had due to the recession and the serious natural disaster suffered earlier in the year. Taxing online gambling will certainly allow the country to take in more money. Although things are looking bright in the future of online gambling in Italy it may still be slow going through the AAMS most likely poker will be the first to see laws relaxed and then following casino games but it is not certain how soon this will all happen but still looks promising. Making online gambling more easily accessible to Italians may also be good for Silvio Berlosconi, Italy’s prime minister, whom is constantly in and out of the papers at the moment over sex scandals, Berlusconi could do with having some weight taken off his shoulders and this would certainly help him in becoming more favored again by Italians if they could gamble more freely. The recession has affected the land casinos and the online casinos in a big way, with $1.6 billion less being spent in 2008 than the previous year. US casinos have seen revenues fall 4.7% in 2008 down to $32.5 billion. It wasn’t just the recession that caused these low figures but also factors such as the smoking bans across the US. The worst is apparently over and revenues should slowly be increasing once again. Related articles-

A California Superior Court Judge recently dismissed a lawsuit brought against search engine heavyweights Yahoo and Google. The suit was filed by online gamblers who had suffered heavy losses. They argued that companies who accept adverts for online gambling should be held liable for damages or losses casued by using the sites. However, the Judge ruled that the Communications Decency Act excuses ISPs from liability caused by the words or actions of third parties that use their service. In other words, despite the fact that both Yahoo and Google used to run ads for online casinos, (which neither any longer does) they cannot be held responsible for the actions of the casinos or gamers who use them. A victory then, for common sense and a pleasant change for the online gaming industry which had been gainng something of a persecution complex, due to the number of ambivalent and outdated charges filed against it by federal prosecutors. However, the Communications Decency Act does not offer protection from the criminal laws of the federal government, as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft recently discovered to their cost – they were fined a total of $31.5 million by the US Justice Dept. for promoting illegal online gambling sites…
