Vegas finally on the rise

Vegas has been fighting the recession for the last 2 years, with large casino companies going bankrupt and others defaulting on loans and finding it impossible to get finance to carry on developments. Finally Vegas has reported a month of increased revenue which looks promising. According to the Gaming control board in November casinos took $873m making it a state wide increase of 4%. The previous year things were looking terrible with no end in sight. The Vegas strip has reported an increase of 7% in takings this month. Related articles-
David Carruthers going to jail

David Carruthers of Betonsports was indicted in 2006 and accused of accepting bets from US punters online, he was sentenced to 33 months in jail. Carruthers has spent 3 years and 5 months under house arrest, 32 days in jail and will serve 33 months extra following his sentence. Carruthers has given away $43m to the US government and the company Betonsports was fined $28m. Gary Kaplan the founder of betonsports is doing 51 months in jail starting November. Related articles-
History of gambling in Macau

In 1847 gambling was legalized in Macau to generate revenues for the government. In the late 19th century the government brought in a licensing system for the Chinese gambling houses. 200 gambling houses were needed to pay rent to the government. In 1937 the first gambling monopoly concession was granted to Tai Xing company. In 1962 the STDM was formed, this was a syndicate jointly formed between Chine and Macau businessmen, this granted monopoly rights to all forms of gambling. The STDM brought around western casino games and modernized the marine transport between Hong Kong and Macau. This change brought millions of gamblers from Hong Kong every year to Macau. In 1986 the licence was extended to the end of 2001 but in 2001 it finished. In 2002 the monopoly was stopped and Vegas casino companies opened up Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands and Galaxy entertainment group. Stanley Ho held the Macau gambling monopoly for 40 years and in 2002 is reign finished. Related articles-
Online casinos VS Online casino guide sites in Google rankings

There has been a discussion lately in casino forums about whether players prefer to find online casinos in the top google rankings or online casino guide sites. The online gambling industry has always had allot of casino affiliates in it, hence the huge amount in the search engine rankings but are there too many over packing the rankings. As an affiliate I would tend to take a biased view but I think they are certainly a benefit, allot of people forget what we actually do other than run a business, we advise players on which casinos to play at where they will get the best pay outs and which rogue casinos to avoid at all costs, we keep the players protected. If online casinos were just in the first page of google, newbie players may not read about allot of these casinos actually being a poor choice for players. Just because a website ranks high doesn’t mean it is a reputable online casino. The same goes for online casino guide sites, there are plenty of sites that just point players towards the highest paying affiliate program online casino.
Lady Gaga offered residency at Las Vegas casino

The Palms casino in Las Vegas has offered famous pop star Lady Gaga a residency at the popular Las Vegas casino. Owner of The Palms George Maloof said that after seeing her recently perform he was so blown away by her performance he thinks she is perfect for his casino. Lady Gaga is certainly a performer that would suit the theme of Vegas but whether or not she will accept a residency at a casino I am not so sure. Related articles-

Sands Macau goes public

Sheldon Adelson’s Sands Macau goes public raising $2.5b. The past year has been a terrible year for the gaming industry in Macau, the financial crisis has caused casino constructions to slow down and stop but Sheldon Adelson said his company is now excited to progress ahead. Sheldon Adelson said he had no doubts he would be progressing ahead it was just a case of when, the media have made the low points of the recession affecting the Sands seem far worse than we actually felt said Adelson he was never as worried as the media made it out he and the Sands were. Adelson said he is not worried about the company debt of $5 billion as they could pay this off. Related articles-
SJM sees higher revenue for 2010

SJM holdings Macau’s biggest casino operator says it expects much improved gambling revenues by March 2010 due to a stronger Chinese economy. By March it is expected that there could be a 25% increase in revenue. Stanley Ho the companies Chairman is still recovering from a blood clot which Investors have been watching over as this is the man who controlled Macau for 40 years and still has a major share.
Horse racing in Macau

Other than casinos in Macau horse racing is a very popular form of gambling entertainment. The Macau jockey club is the place for horse racing, this happens mainly Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The race course is on the Taipa Island of Macau. The race course is 450,000 square metres and has 18,000 seats for gamblers. The Macau jockey club was previously known as Macau Trotting Club.
