Harrah’s trying to buy Planet Hollywood Vegas

The Planet Hollywood casino in Vegas has been struggling for some time and Harrah’s who has already taken $130 million debt of their overall $870 million debt is negotiating a takeover.  PHW Las Vegas LLC has been formed with the intent of taking over Planet Hollywood.  The casino is not to be mistaken with the restaurant chain this is a separate entity.  Whether or not Harrah’s will get it only time will tell as there are others interested but Harrah’s previously taking some of the debt gives them more priority.

Las Vegas gamble $8.5 billion

In hard times in Vegas with room price cuts due to fewer customers and customers spending less, Las Vegas is placing a big bet, $8.5 billion to be exact on a 67 acre 6 tower complex of hotels and restaurants that opens Tuesday in Vegas.  A total of 5,600 rooms need to be rented out and in Vegas there are many room unfilled.  This major construction may pull Vegas deeper down into the pit of the recession but may equally pull it out of 2 years of gloom.  They are certainly putting all their eggs in one basket but lets hope it pays off for them.

Crown casino holds most expensive wedding in Australia $3m

This weekend at the Crown Casino the most expensive wedding in Australia took place.  The total cost of the wedding for Brynne Gordon and geoffrey Edelsten was $3m a hell of allot for a wedding if you ask me.  There were 550 guests and Gordon wore an ivory gown with $500,000 worth of diamonds.  $3m was certainly an acceptable price for a wedding bearing in my mind Edelsten owns a major Afl team.  There were many Afl stars and celebs at the wedding and the wedding will certainly be remembered through out time.

Majestic files for bankruptcy

Las Vegas based land casino, Majestic star files for bankruptcy.  Majestic recently defaulted on an $80 million loan and has therefore had to file for bankruptcy.  The recession has been to blame according to the casino owner but they will not be pulling out of the overall casino business he commented.  Lehman Brothers has about $46.3 million in the casino and Goldman Sachs $64 million.  According to associated press Majestic star owed $750 million at the end of June and was worth about $405 million.
