How online casino advertisements are viewed by children

Nowadays online casino adverts can be seen across the net on non gaming sites such as Hotmail or Facebook and on TV, but how is this affecting the youth of today?  IPSOS mori a survey organization sponsored by the national lottery commission composed a survey on this exact question measuring children’s attitude to gambling offline and on the Net.  The survey was across 9000 children aged 12-15 and found that Children were less likely to purchase scratch cards and play casino games.

“Rates of problem gambling have fallen since 2005-06: 2% children were identified as problem gamblers compared with 3.5% in 2005-06. It is likely that this drop reflects falling levels of gambling among children over time, particularly on potentially more addictive forms of gambling such as slot machines.” 78% of the children could recall seeing a gambling advert on TV or online, and 82% who gambled in the last 7 days remembering seeing an advert recently.  ASA the advertising standards agency monitors gambling advertisements and protects children from gambling ads that appeal to them like the slapstick ones Intercasino tried to run which have been banned as they appealed to kids.  ASA constantly comes under scrutiny from online casino operators for being too strict yet other people believe they are not strict enough, but in today’s culture with gambling being so easily accessible they have to watch strictly over advertising as gambling addictions can be more easily formed and harder to stop with casinos being in homes 247.
