The World Poker Tour had one of its websites hacked earlier on this month. The Amateur Poker League website that they run was hacked, allowing for hackers to gain the passwords and email information of 175,000 players that are currently registered with the online poker room.
The hacking was committed by a long time player at the poker room. We will not reveal the name of the hacker as the authorities are taking care of the hacker as we speak right now. The hacker went onto his Twitter account where he began to brag about the crime he just committed saying the following, “Happy New Year To All Crackers and Hackers, World Poker Tour Players now all have the same password. Enjoy all you poker players.”
This essentially meant that anyone who followed the hacker on Twitter could go create an account at WPT, see other players winning big money and then copy their username. Afterwards they could just sign into their account, withdrawal their winning and boom that player has been robbed of their money.
The World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League commented on the hacker and his crimes saying, “All of our players should go change the default password made by the hacker and create your own new one. This will allow you to at least keep your winnings from any players looking to create some trouble. The United Kingdom and United States gambling authorities are working with one another to see where this hacker is located. Once found he will be punished for his crimes, we can ensure you of that.”
