Gambling Stories - A Memorial Day Weekend to Remember Part One

Several years ago when I lived in Northern California, I decided to take a tour bus to Lake Tahoe and see if I could get a little lucky. I had about seventeen hundred dollars in my pocket, a far cry from a high roller stake. After arriving, I promptly found myself down about six hundred dollars. The funny thing about it was I did not feel that I was unlucky. At this point in time the luck started to swing back my way. I won four hundred dollars playing poker and another three hundred on a horse that one of the players had running in California. The horse won and I was now slightly ahead. When I quit the poker game to get some dinner I was only two hundred ahead. After dinner I decided to take a seat in the Baccarat room. They were allowing a minimum bet of ten dollars per hand. The shoe was running in short three and four winning spurts on either side of the shoe. As the table filled up the shoe stayed favorable to following the shoe with your next bet. Slowly and with several Jack Daniel drinks my winnings began to accumulate and then grow even faster as my bets became a little bolder. I also noticed that this one lady player always dealt a tie hand when the shoe moved to her. I counted my stacks and I was now about 24 hundred ahead. When the shoe finally got to her, I made the decision to play for the 8 to one tie when she dealt. I bet $100 dollars on the tie and it missed. The next $200 dollar tie-bet also lost. I put three hundred on the next tie-bet and it missed again. The pit boss saw my gains rapidly going back to the house. When I asked what was the maximum wager I could bet on the tie, he replied that I could bet $500 With no thought on my part, except a very strong belief that the lady dealer would deal a tie, I bet the tie again for the maximum bet. The table got quiet and the dealer did the deal. The Banker-Dealer got so excited that she exposed her hand first. She had a natural nine. The croupier made her put the cards under the corner of the shoe and then turned to the player and asked for the cards. The player threw the cards to the croupier and as she did she showed that she also had a natural nine. The table erupted and started clapping. I was so surprised that I had won that I just sat there at the table like a stone. The croupier pushed my winnings to me along with my $500 bet, which amounted to $4500 dollars. I sipped my drink from about three drinks that stood sweating before me and decided what to do next.
